garage door not fully open

It’s easy to take for granted your garage door fully open and closing. Regular maintenance is key to helping make sure your door opens and closes regularly. Although certain situations can prevent it from opening and closing. If your door gets stuck halfway, here are some possible causes.

1. Garage Door Springs

Extension or torsion springs help a garage door open and close. The weight of the garage door spring keeps the door balanced and allows the garage door to fully open. If springs are not properly maintained, they can have too much tension or not enough. In this situation the door can be unbalanced, and the springs could break.

2. Travel Limits

Most garage door openers have travel limits to prevent accidents from happening. The limits tell the door how far it can expect to travel up and down before stopping. If your garage door doesn’t fully open or close, a technician at Sterling Door can come check it out to make sure everything is working properly.

3. Garage Door Sensors

Another reason why your garage door might not fully open is an issue with the sensors. If the door almost closes, but then stops and reverses before hitting the ground, there could be an obstruction with the sensors. When the sensors can’t align with each other, it usually means there is an object in the way preventing the door from closing. Something as small as dust or cob webs getting on the sensors can prevent the garage door from fully closing. Sensors being misaligned can happen at anytime, no matter how old or new the opener is.
